What materials can be used in a Glowforge?

Glowforge can cut wood, fabric, leather, paper, Plexiglas (acrylic), Delrin (acetal), mylar, rubber, Corian, foods, and more. Glowforge can also engrave all of the above plus glass, coated metal, marble, anodized aluminum, titanium, some phones, tablets, and laptops, and more.

What can you not put in a Glowforge?

  • PVC including Vinyl and Pleather (emits chlorine gas)
  • ABS (emits cyanide gas)
  • HDPE/milk bottle plastic.
  • Fiberglass.
  • Coated carbon fiber.
  • Materials that reflect the laser (Chrome or Copper)
  • PolyStyrene Foam or PolyPropylene Foam.

Can Glowforge engrave food?

If you plan to use your Glowforge for consumable food, you’ll need to exclusively use it for food and never cut wood, paper, acrylic, or anything else in it. If you’ve already used your Glowforge for cutting or engraving something else, it’s too late.

What can fit in a Glowforge?

All Glowforge printers can accommodate materials measuring up to 18” deep, 20.4” wide, and 2” (50 mm) tall. The maximum printable area is about 11 x 19.5”. The Glowforge Pro allows you to make enormous oversized prints.

What can you do with a basic Glowforge?

The Glowforge Basic can etch and cut multiple materials easily, including acrylic, leather, paper, rubber, and wood. It can engrave all of these materials as well, along with anodized metal, ceramic, glass, and stone. Glowforge sells its own cutting materials, like acrylic and wood, under the name Proofgrade.
